Learn how you can help businesses create value through Zero Waste by attending this training based on the comprehensive GBCI Zero Waste certification program for facilities. This training is intended for those interested in pursuing the professional Zero Waste Business Associate (ZWBA) Certification; however, enrollment is open to anyone interested in learning more about the GBCI Zero Waste certification and how to better understand the application (formerly known as “scorecard”).

Course Overview

Three 2-hour course sections will provide students with an overview of the GBCI Zero Waste application and certification system. The course will outline the history of the certification, the definition of Zero Waste, what are considered to be Zero Waste policies and programs, and provide a detailed explanation of the application, including sample case studies that demonstrate how to achieve credits for each category within the application. The training will provide educational resources and tools to help facilities get started (or complete) their efforts to pursue Zero Waste. Attendance to all 3 sections is required.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  1. Summarize the history of and the significance of the Zero Waste Certification System
  2. Describe the key components and history of the definition of Zero Waste
  3. Identify the minimum requirements for a facility to obtain a Zero Waste Certification
  4. Describe how to gather and track baseline information
  5. Identify the categories and point rating system of the Application used to certify Zero Waste facilities
  6. Discuss the registration completion and review process
  7. Identify credits from each of the 15 certification rating categories

Who Should Take This Course & Prerequisites
This course is for those who work in or with businesses that plan on implementing a Zero Waste Business plan and/or are applying for the GBCI Zero Waste certification for their facility. It is also required for those seeking to obtain the GBCI ZWBA Certification.

Course Exam

There is no exam required for completion of this course. However, completion of this course will prepare students for an exam to be certified as a Zero Waste Business Associate (ZWBA) by GBCI. Those individuals pursuing ZWBA Certification will be required to pass a comprehensive exam on the Zero Waste Implementers Manual and the information and case studies provided in this course.
